Students will receive an email no later than a week before the Workshop with information on this 90 minute video. Students who have not been in our Standard ACT Class or had tutoring with George Mizzell must work through it before class begins.
This course is best suited for students with math/science scores under 25-26. Students with a math score below this level need a stronger foundation working on some of the easier math problems. These are the problems that students are most likely to see on the test and need proficiency in. Improvement in these basics means fewer mistakes and more time to work on the more difficult problems. Common mistakes such as negative signs, basic formulas, arithmetic calculations, averages and order of operations we seek to eliminate through practice!!! Students will work on problems and then Mr. Mizzell will review and explain not only how to work them but also hints to look for in the way the ACT states the problems/questions.
NOTE: There will be homework after every class and the students are expected to not only complete their homework, but review missed problems and how to make corrections.
Session 1 - January 28, 2019, 4:15 to 6:00 PM (half time on each subject)
Math: Focus on Pre-Algebra/Elementary Algebra - Generally Math Test Problems 1-30. Typically these are problems students worked on in 8th or 9th grade and just some refresher work is required.
Science: Focus on science passages and science concepts that appear more frequently - George will discuss the science behind the passage. All questions will be reviewed in detail.
Session 2 - February 4, 2019, 4:15 to 6:00 PM (half time on each subject)
Math: More focus on Algebra/Coordinate Geometry section of the test - usually Math Test Problems 1-30. We want to build a strong foundation on the easy math problems.
Science: Students will work through a wider variety of science passages and more focus will be on improving speed.
Session 3 - February 11, 2019, 4:15 to 6:15 PM (half time on each subject)
Math: Focus on Algebra II/Plane Geometry and elementary Trig section of the test - Usually Math Test Problems 31-45.
Science: Focus is expanding on the types of passages and primarily working on speed on the difficult science passages.
Session 4 - February 18, 2019, 4:15 to 6:00 PM (half time on each subject)
Math: Focus on Plane Geometry/Trig section of the test - Usually, Math Problems 46-60, but will include some that are scattered in the 30-45 range. These are the more difficult problems and we will work through the more common types of hard problems.
Science: Focus is expanding on the types of passages and primarily working on speed on the harder science passages.
