Confused About ACT Science?

Here Are the Facts.

• ACT Science is now optional.

• Science is NOT included in the ACT Composite or Superscore.

If you take Science, you will see your Science score listed alongside you other section scores

on the score report. That does not mean it is calculated into your composite score.

• Your ACT score is now based on English, Math, and Reading only.

Should You Still Take Science?

For many students, probably not—but it depends on where and what you plan to study.

Some colleges or specific programs may still require or recommend a Science score, particularly

certain competitive or STEM-focused programs. Policies continue to evolve, so it is important to check the

current requirements for the colleges and programs you are considering.

Our recommendation: Before registering for Science, check directly with the admissions office

or official admissions website for each school on your list.

If Science is not required or recommended for your college or scholarship goals, we recommend

focusing your preparation time on English, Math, and Reading—the three sections that determine your composite score.
